Viber

Branded business messages in the markets where Viber is an everyday app.

Viber offers business messages from a verified sender name, with images and buttons, and chatbots that people can subscribe to. Businesses use it for transactional updates, codes, promotions and support, mainly in the countries where Viber is widely used. Messages are usually sent through an official partner, and SMS often serves as the fallback for people who do not use the app.

What matters when choosing

  • Official partner status, with sender name approval handled for you.
  • Automatic fallback to SMS for people who are not on Viber or do not receive the message.
  • Delivery and read reporting returned to your systems.
  • Separate handling of transactional and promotional messages.

Questions to ask providers

  1. In which of our countries is Viber worth adding, and how do you show that?
  2. How is a message charged when it falls back to SMS?
  3. How long does sender approval take, and what content rules apply?

Common mistakes

  • Adding Viber in markets where few customers use it, which adds work without reach.
  • Paying twice for one message because the fallback rules are unclear.

What it is good at

  • Branded messages with images and buttons.
  • Markets where Viber is part of daily life.
  • Read status that SMS cannot provide.

What to watch for

  • Reach that is strong in some countries and thin in others.
  • Sender approval before launch.
  • Double charges if fallback is not designed carefully.

How it is priced

Business Messages are charged per message, at rates set by country and type (codes and transactional, or promotional). Domestic rates apply only when the sender is headquartered in the recipient's country; every other sender pays international rates. Chatbots follow a separate model: since 5 February 2024 each bot carries a maintenance fee of €115 a month unless a signed agreement says otherwise, plus a charge for each delivered message the bot starts, while messages inside a 24-hour session are included in the fee. Any SMS fallback is charged as SMS.
