CPaaS
Azure Communication Services
Microsoft's communications APIs on Azure: voice and video calling, chat, SMS, email and WhatsApp, with Teams interoperability.
A natural candidate when the rest of the stack already runs on Azure or around Microsoft Teams.
Billed per use through an Azure subscription, with SDKs for web and mobile, a UI library for calling and chat, and events delivered through Azure Event Grid. WhatsApp is offered as Advanced Messaging, generally available since March 2024. Worth a look when you want calling, chat and messaging inside your own app and already buy from Microsoft.
Where it shines
- Calling, chat, SMS, email and WhatsApp under one Azure bill
- Meeting experiences that join Microsoft Teams without a Teams account
- Delivery reports delivered as Event Grid events
Check before signing
- SMS sender types depend on the country and your Azure billing address; toll-free numbers only reach the US, Canada and Puerto Rico
- Confirm sender-ID and number availability for each country before you plan a rollout
